![]() Mick also worked on his technical skills, always striving to become better at the physical craft. It drew on the weapons carried by Roman legionnaires, yet was modern and usable in the 21stCentury battlefield. An example of this was the Ajax – it featured a very wide blade surface clearly designed to inflict damage. But constant in all of them was a disregard for convention, and a desire to try new ideas. His knife line grew over the following years to include different varieties of fixed blades, all distinctive and many with specialized uses. For instance, he was not the first to wrap a knife handle with paracord, but he was the first to do it in a way that was tough enough for sustained infantry use. Mick sampled some good ideas, but made them great. Soldiers, policemen, and other men going into harm’s way couldn’t buy them fast enough. No one carrying a Strider knife was going to be spotted because of sunlight glinting off of polished steel or a glossy leather sheath. These knives were the first indication of his innovative approach: in addition to their utilitarian design, the knives carried a subdued finish and subdued sheaths. The knives he made didn’t look like the hunter-inspired knives seen in most PXs instead they were almost brutish in their functionality: beefy, solid, and with unbreakable ¼” stock full tangs. He started with a tabula rasa, a clean slate, informed only by his own experiences and knowledge of what a soldier needed in a knife. Mick’s approach was to not get burdened by the weight of past designs. This turned out to be fortunate turn of events, both for Mick and for the knife using world at large. Removing the lower screw from the loop lets you wear the knife inside the waistband. In 1988, he began making specialized knives for use by the military. The molded kydex sheath comes equipped with velcro loop but will accept most mounting hardware/clips, allowing flexible options on how to mount the knife. The thumb serrations allow you to "choke up" on the knife for more delicate tasks or to get more leverage. The spine serrations are perfect for tearing though tough materials. It is a favorite with the military as well as outdoors enthusiasts as it offers a ton of utility in a smaller fixed blade package. The HT is a small tool for big jobs that also can be concealed. Spine Serrations for rough cutting and tearing tasks.Constructed from the SUPER tough CPM 3V steel.Curved main cutting edge for more cutting surface area. The deeper hollow grind stops well short of the spine, allowing for plenty of ‘urban wrecking'.Main cutting edge has a deeper hollow ground main bevel and a more acute final edge geometry for better general use slicing capability.Reenforced tanto profile tip for piercing strength.Whether carried concealed, on your duty rig, or tucked in your bug-out-bag, the DUB is the damn near perfect tool for the job. Problem is that many folks can’t wrap their heads around the fact that knives are just like any other tools: you need to pick the right one for the job! There is a difference between a framing hammer and a finishing hammer!Įnter the DUB! The Strider Knives crew decided to take the reinforced tanto style tip of the DB and combine it with the curved main cutting edge of the SA to create a bombproof, versatile, EDC sized fixed blade. The DB has a more obtuse edge geometry and a straight main cutting edge. On some occasions people would hear about the legendary DB and then order one only to get it and say “it’s not hair shaving sharp!” to which we would then have to explain to them the reality of edge geometry. It was for things like popping open windows and doors, hacking your way in or out of a helicopter or car. The DB - Was designed by a cop who basically wanted an urban wrecking tool. Therefore, not as well suited to urban wrecking. That curved cutting edge makes it a damn near perfect self defense/utility blade, but there is no debating that the tip is more fragile than the enforced tanto tip of the DB. The SA - With its versatile, general use, spearpoint blade profile, is great at traditional “knife stuff” like cutting, slicing, stabbing, etc. However, they were designed with different roles in mind: The Strider DB and SA models have become almost legendary over the past 20 years for being smaller, carry all the time, near indestructible, fixed blades.
